Ugly Sweaters are Beautiful at CIS of Kalamazoo

It’s sweater season at Communities In Schools of Kalamazoo and we’re delighted to host our 10th Annual Ugly Sweater event. Each year we gather in our ugliest of sweaters to bring awareness to our whole child approach of supporting students. This approach includes providing essentials such as warm winter wear and supplies—just one of the dozens of ways that CIS supports kids in Kalamazoo.

Our fun and lighthearted event combines the festive tradition of wearing tacky or humorous sweaters while supporting the mission of CIS: surrounding students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. This year, we will enjoy special music entertainment from Western Michigan University’s Advanced Jazz Ensemble throughout the night.

Eight sweaters will be competing for this year’s Ugliest Sweater trophy and bragging rights. The sweater design teams have been busy gluing, sewing, taping, and stapling their masterpieces together—all to raise funds for CIS and your vote!

You can support this season’s event in a variety of ways. Here are some dates to add to your calendar:

  • Now until 12/10 at 7:30 p.m. – Voting for the 2024 ugliest sweater is LIVE, check out all the sweaters in the competition by visiting our event page here.
  • Silent auction opens on 12/3 and closes 12/9 at midnight – Check out the items here and place your bids. New items will be added during this window, so check often.
  • Join us on December 10th at Bell’s Brewery, back room from 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. for this year’s annual ugly sweater party! Get your tickets today here.

The sweaters up for the 2024 Ugliest Sweater Award were hand-crafted and designed by team members at Chase, Edwards Garment, The Emerging Leaders for CIS of Kalamazoo, Fifth Third Bank, Humphrey Products, Kalamazoo Public Schools, Kalsec, Inc., Old National Bank, and PNC.

Thank you to Kalsec, Inc., our presenting sponsor for making this event possible.

“CIS’s mission of empowering students to stay in school and achieve in life is complementary to Kalsec’s own purpose: unlocking the potential of people, nature, and science to nourish the world. Kalsec focuses its corporate giving on educational initiatives, and we are proud to support CIS as it helps students reach their full potential to succeed in both school and life. Finally, one of Kalsec’s core values is to have fun along the way… the Ugly Sweater Party is a great event to build relationships, have fun, and support a great cause – helping students and in turn our community.” – Ian Kennedy, General Counsel & Chair – Corporate Giving and Sponsorship Committee
