OUR IMPACT

Our successes are shared endeavors. No single organization can meet all the needs of a child. Working together through a proven model, CIS works with the community to address the needs of the whole child. Together, we are helping thousands by removing barriers to educational achievement.

CIS is a critical component to success.

Independent research, funded by Atlantic Philanthropies, demonstrates that Communities In Schools, Inc., is one of a few organizations proven to keep kids in school and the only one to document that it increases graduation rates.

Using a school-based approach to promote students’ academic success by securing and coordinating supports that target academic and non-academic barriers to achievement, students are empowered to succeed.

“CIS has partnered closely with KPS over the last decade as we have increased test scores at all levels, high school Advanced Placement participation, and graduation rates, and have decreased dropout rates. KPS simply wouldn’t be the same school district, or community, without CIS, and children wouldn’t be as well served.”

– Dr. Michael F. Rice, Superintendent, Kalamazoo Public Schools

Success Stories

Meet Johnny

After struggling in math and reading, Johnny found success in his Site Coordinators… even when he changed schools.

Meet Lacey

Mrs. Husain helped Lacey to find the supports she needed to be a better student.

Meet LaStarra

When LaStarra’s GPA plunged to a .08, she came to a realization. If she didn’t make a change soon, she wouldn’t graduate. After mapping out a plan with her Success Coach, she started on a new journey that would ultimately end in success.

Meet Hailiey

Hailiey started the year at a reading-level that was two grades behind. After working with the school, CIS, and partners, she is now reading at level above her current grade.

Meet Omarion

Omarion found that by changing his behavior and commitment to his studies, he was able to find success in school.

Meet Arieonna

In the beginning of the year Arieonna’s decisions were leading her down a difficult path. After working with CIS, she was able to better manage her time, improve her grades, and even get a job!
